Cruiseliner “Pride of America” sinks in German port

BREMERHAVEN, Germany, Jan 14 (Reuters) – A 72,000-ton cruiseliner under construction in Germany sank, injuring three people, in the northern port of Bremerhaven after water leaked into its engine room, police said on Wednesday. The accident has left “Pride of America,” a 300-million-euro ($380.9 million) vessel being built by Lloyd Werft shipyard for Norwegian Cruise Line, on the harbour bed, listing by about 15 degrees to starboard. Three workers were hurt when the vessel shifted suddenly just after midnight, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear if heavy storms across Germany overnight caused the accident.
