E.ON Wins Green Energy Generator of the Year Award

E.ON Climate & Renewables has won the coveted Global Energy Award – a kind of Oscar for energy companies – in the category “Green Energy Generator of the Year”. Platts Global Energy Awards are hosted by Platts, the leading global provider of en-ergy, petrochemicals and metals information.

E.ON’s global unit for renewable energy received the award in New York as the best developer of offshore wind farms. The jury made up of international energy experts stated that, in only five years, E.ON had become one of the most important companies in the renewables sector, occupying a leading position worldwide above all in the development of offshore wind power.

E.ON is one of the few companies in the world experienced in building offshore wind farms in different water depths and with all kinds of foundation. In 2010, almost half the offshore wind turbines installed in Europe were erected by E.ON. The company operates six offshore wind farms with a total capacity of approx. 500 MW; they include alpha ventus, Germany’s first open-sea wind farm.

At present, E.ON and partners are building London Array, the world’s biggest wind farm off the British coast. In the coming years, E.ON intends to step up further the pace of offshore wind power development and at the same time greatly reduce the construction cost. Therefore the company recently chartered the currently best offshore construction vessel for a period of six years. This vessel is particularly suited to open-sea wind farms of the kind to be built in German waters. It will enable future offshore projects to be executed even faster and more cost-efficiently.
