Gorinchem
August 19, 2024

We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.

About The role

You will be part of a diverse and multidisciplinary research team of three to four engineers. A Research Engineer Production is responsible for the development of high-end technological knowledge related to Industry 4.0 and the dissemination thereof within Damen. A Research Engineer closely follows the developments both in- and outside the company.

You are eager to know the latest developments regarding production optimization, robotics, process mining and process simulations and you are motivated to initiate your own research project ideas and pitch them for our stakeholders. You conduct research projects in a team as well as individually supporting the integration and implementation of the new technologies. As a research engineer you will actually sometimes work ‘in the field’ to validate and test developed solutions on our yards and use this to build experience and to maintain a hands-on approach.

Based on the research you will advise our business to improve actual yard processes and explore future yard concepts. We participate in European or national funded collaboration R&D projects. In these projects we work together with other internal stakeholders from the business, as well as suppliers and research and knowledge institutes. You will have lots of opportunities to build and maintain your own network. This creates an interesting and challenging mix of creativity, science and communication.

Key accountabilities

  • Setup, undertake and follow up on research projects supporting the innovation of our product range. This also involves gaining support for your ideas, managing the stakeholders and sharing the obtained knowledge;
  • Provide specific expert technical advice toward ‘shipyard of the future’ developments;
  • Maintain an overview of state of the art technologies and implementation opportunities within Damen;
  • Maintain a network of and collaborate with knowledge institutes and suppliers;
  • Verification and validation of developed technology ‘in the field’ and in laboratory environment.

Skills & experience

  • Master degree in Mechanical or Maritime Engineering, or equivalent;
  • Relevant working experience is considered advantageous, but is not required;
  • Affinity with process simulations, data analysis, materials and structures;
  • The ability to collaborate with specialists from other fields of expertise;
  • Independent and organised worker;
  • A high level of proficiency in English, both verbally and in writing.

What we offer

At DAMEN, we realize the importance of supporting and managing talented people. We hire talented and skilled professionals, but we also understand that we need to continuously invest in talent development. That is why we help you develop new skills and competences. The Damen Academy is at your disposal, but we will also coach and mentor you on the job.

We offer you:

  • Personal guidance and training, a lot of freedom in choosing how you do your work, varied work and a work environment where your opinion counts;
  • A competitive package of employment terms (based on our collective labour agreement Metalektro);
  • A dynamic international working environment focusing on technology and innovation;

  • An active social environment in terms of business culture, events and sports.
