HiDef Completes Cable Route Surveys Offshore East Coast of England

HiDef Aerial Surveying deployed the latest version of its digital video technology within the intertidal area of the Wash on the east coast of England. The survey provided complete coverage of the near shore cable routes for the LID/Lincs and Race Bank windfarms for Centrica Renewable Energy.

Conventional methods for cable route surveys have proven to be labour intensive and time consuming with land access a constant challenge.

HiDef deployed the technology in a similar way to its conventional aerial surveys at proposed offshore wind farm locations. The service provides very detailed information on the position and condition of existing cables routed through the Wash and provides a rich source of data for planned cable installations. In addition to having detailed imagery of the terrain without putting ‘boots on the ground’ the service allows for measurements to be made and analyses undertaken without the need to buy and deploy specialised equipment.

John Martin, Managing Director of HiDef commented “our services targeting ecologically sensitive and hard to reach areas have proven to be of significant interest to wind power and infrastructure developers alike. Our ability to provide highly detailed super high definition video images for expert analysis is set to change the way cable route surveys are conducted. The power of the service quickly became evident during early trials when ecology consultants were able to differentiate grass types from images taken at 2000 feet.”
