IPCC’s Chairman Visits DONG Energy

Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri, Chairman of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has visited a number of Danish companies during his two-day visit in Denmark to give a lecture at the University of Copenhagen. He also visited DONG Energy.

On Monday, he met with Anders Eldrup, CEO, to discuss the possibilities for securing the future climate.

During the meeting, Pachauri expressed that he completely agrees with DONG Energy; if the politicians cannot agree on a solution to the climate issues, then the initiative has to come from within. In his opinion, it will be the industry, society and the consumers that will make demands and come up with solutions.

Biomass will play a central role

Anders Eldrup introduced DONG Energy’s conversion from coal to wind power and biomass to Pachauri. The conversion was highly commended by Pachauri.

While offshore wind power is mainly implemented in Northern Europe, Pachauri saw great international potential in biomass.

Pachauri does not only consider biomass to be a fuel source, but also a raw material that can be applied in the production of bioethanol. According to Pachauri, it is very important to consider the opportunities that lie in residual products of ethanol production as they can replace a number of petrochemical products.

DONG Energy invited to international conference

In early 2012, Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri, will be hosting an international climate conference in New Delhi , India. He was so impressed with DONG Energy’s conversion process and strategy that he invited Anders Eldrup to New Delhi to give a presentation at the conference.
