Red7Marine to Replace Interarray Cables at Thanet Windfarm

Red7Marine is gearing up to replace two interarray cables at the 300MW Thanet offshore wind farm. The job involves swapping out of one 650-metre and one 850-metre wire at the Vattenfall project.

Red7 will use its own 90-meter vessel OSV DP Reel to carry out the work, which is planned to kick off in mid-November. The original installations by now-defunct cabling operator Subocean were not up to standard, it is understood.

A Vattenfall spokesman said there are no plans to replace further cables at the site. Great Yarmouth based Red7Marine recently finished replacing a five-meter joint in Thanet’s export cable in Pegwell Bay, which was also installed by Subocean. ABB supplied the new joint and Red7Marine used the Stemat Oslo vessel to pull the two cable ends together. The work was completed in roughly 10 days despite challenging weather conditions and shallow water depths.
