Damen Shipyards Signs Contract with Smit Lamnalco

Damen Shipyards and Smit Lamnalco have today signed a contract for delivery of three tug boats.

The signing ceremony took place at Damen Shipyard’s booth at the SMM 2012 in Hamburg, Germany.

Phil Cornish, Smit Lamnalco Technical Manager, Andrew Brown, Smit Lamnalco Business Development Manager and Arnout Damen COO of Damen Shipyards signed the contract for delivery of 1 Damen Stan Tug 2208 and 2 x Damen ASD Tugs 3212.

The vessels are destined to be deployed in Sierra Leone and Iraq. The value of the contract was not disclosed. The Stan Tug 2208 will be built in Damen’s Cape Town shipyard in South Africa, while the ASD Tugs will be constructed in Damen’s yard in Romania.

The vessels are expected to be delivered to Smit Lamnalco by mid November 2012, and will be deployed in Sierra Leone and Iraq.

Arnout Damen, COO at Damen Shipyards commented: “Lamnalco had a request for delivery of two tug boats and needed a fast delivery and we were able to respond to the order. We are very happy Lamnalco chose our company for the job.”

The vessels will be constructed from the hulls already in stock which explains fast delivery times scheduled.

 Middle east

Asked about the opportunities in the Middle East, Damen responded that the company has been doing business in the region since the 1970’s and that they are now looking at opportunities to sell their offshore vessels to costumers in the Middle East.
