Our client has a fleet of over 250 road tankers, two modern cleaning stations in The Netherlands, a strong intermodal network linking major markets in Western, Northern and Southern Europe, and own offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The group management works in close cooperation with the local management at each country office, thereby combining a strong network with local expertise, adding value, and providing clients with services beyond transporting cargo in a safe and efficient way.

What do you do?

As the Branch Manager Hamburg you will be overall responsible for the company’s activities in Germany, which consists of the office in Hamburg (2-3 FTE), app. 30 vehicles with app. 35 drivers, as well as a 3 hubs spread throughout Germany. The main / overall planning is provided by HQ in The Netherlands each day. The Branch Manager is mainly responsible for the day to day operation in Germany.

Responsibilities include:

• Accepting loads and arranging return loads, both inland and cross-border. creating win-win situations for all parties involved.

• Consultation with clients in relation to transport orders for the German as well as Local clients.

• Implement actions to assure optimal occupation of Fleet and deployment.

• Guiding / monitoring the drivers closely.

• Lead, act and follow up in case of accidents or repairs during the execution of the transport orders.

• Is jointly responsible with colleagues for the optimal deployment of personnel and vehicles.

• Conducting performance and appraisal interviews.

• In case of illness or holiday, supporting other colleagues where needed.

• Observing and applying the company regulations, in relation to quality, safety and environment.

• Report to and close cooperate with the Managing Director / HQ in The Netherlands on a regular basis.

Strategic responsibilities include:

• Establish, build, and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and other relevant parties, conduct price negotiations with third parties and be responsible for the financial and commercial aspects (P&L) of the Branch. HQ will provide guidelines to adhere to.

• Contribute to the future growth strategy of the company.

• Recognize and emphasize the importance of technology / ICT throughout the organisation and stimulate the use of it, actively coaching and managing your team of office staff and drivers.

• Create a positive culture of cooperation and respect, safety awareness and quality improvement, instigate changes where necessary.

• Create a positive brand of the company as an Employer of Choice in the market, anticipating and countering a potential shortage of drivers and staff.

What do you bring?

• Knowledge: broad knowledge of transport / planning software and can use a planning system. Aware of legal regulations regarding safety and driving – and rest times. Good technical / equipment knowledge of road tankers, tank containers.

• Social Skills: very strong social and communication skills to optimize the relationship with / between planner /other cultures/ drivers / customer. Is tactful and can apply a helicopter view to a situation. Must be able to work well with colleague planners to achieve optimal planning. Able to coach and develop the drivers for the long term, focusing on optimal driving, safety, and the environment, cost driven.

• Language skills: native German language and good command of the English language, any other language is considered a major plus.

• Excellent analytical skills. You act based on data analysis and reports, such as the KPIs of the drivers, fuel consumption and driving behaviour, absenteeism, incidents / unsafe situations and initiate structural improvement. A cost driven awareness.

• Must have a flexible attitude, able to deal with unexpected situations.

• Completed higher education in transport / logistics is preferred.

• Management skills: at least five years’ experience in the position of (Senior) Planner or Supervisor at a transport company, partially in liquid bulk logistics is a preference. Able to manage a branch office, and handle all responsibilities involved, and implement necessary changes.

• Able to cope with stressful and everchanging situations, either caused by clients, drivers, or other factors.
