For nearly all vessel types of Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of (shipbuilding) know-how. Damen also offers a variety of marine components, such as nozzles, rudders, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.

The role

We are looking for a colleague in Compliance Program Management (full-time or part-time). Are you a strong convincing professional with a proactive attitude and 3-5 years of relevant experience? Do you have strong analytical and program management skills and do you like being part of a multi-lingual international team? Then this might be the role for you!

As a Compliance Program Management professional you will support the Group Compliance Officer with the execution of Damen’s Compliance Program within Damen Group. You will foster a positive culture of compliance and ethics by working proactively with the business and other key functions to ensure that best practices and systems are in place to facilitate the growth of Damen’s business and protecting its integrity in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and internal standards.

You will be involved in a wide range of initiatives related to the updating, planning and execution of the activities related to the Damen Compliance Program (i.e. supporting annual risk assessments, data management, arranging and performing awareness/training initiatives, facilitating the network of compliance officers and other contact persons across the entire organization). You will take care of the preparation of annual planning of compliance initiatives, working together with other team members and stakeholders in the organization.

Also the preparation of awareness campaigns and maintenance of internal communication will be part of your duties.

Department

The Compliance Department consists currently of approximately 6 employees (Business Compliance Officers, Export Compliance Officer and Compliance Support) and is managed by the Group Compliance Officer. The Group Compliance Officer reports directly to the Chief Counsel of the Damen Shipyards Group.

This role reports directly to the Group Compliance Officer of the Damen Shipyards Group.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Compliance Program in coordination with other team members and other stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication, presentation and training skills;
  • Support and report in relation to the executing of the overall compliance strategy and annual plan;
  • Assist in the execution of (compliance) risk assessments;
  • Help to update and to maintain the Damen Compliance Program (risk based) and the work plan (for communications campaigns, workshops, etc.);
  • Help to develop and maintain digital learning modules (risk based) by providing content, examples, etcetera;​
  • Lead Compliance Program initiatives to ensure to keep up the level of awareness  about compliance topics and risks,  to make sure that business operations are supported in achieving their goals, and Compliance projects are completed in a timely manner;
  • Responsible for overall development and maintenance of the Compliance training and awareness program;
  • Perform training & awareness activities, including dilemma sessions, regular internal compliance news messages and related initiatives to raise awareness;
  • Maintain compliance registers, such as related to training and awareness, gifts and hospitalities, compliance monitoring & review, and compliance organizational matters;
  • Document and supporting internal reviews, assessments, and compliance audits of the Compliance Program;
  • Provide timely and accurate guidance to all departments on compliance matters, in coordination with other team members;
  • Assist with compliance reporting to Damen’s executive leadership and external stakeholders;
  • Contribute to Damen’s internal Compliance network and maintaining good working relationships with business, finance, management and other stakeholders.

Skills & experience

Profile:

  • Academic degree;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Fluently English speaking;
  • Global mindset;
  • Familiarity with digital administrative procedures;
  • Strong written/ verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at a management level;
  • 3-5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, legal, finance,  management support or comparable disciplines, preferably in the maritime/engineering and/or financial industry;
  • Preferably experience as teacher / trainer or comparable experience.
