Fleet Performance Engineer (1 FTE)

This is an important role for an active, analytical & persistent individual who want to develop innovative performance improvement solutions, vessel data handling & onboard best practices. Your core objective is to ensure that Unigas is able to make data-driven decisions which will improve overall vessel performance, process efficiency & results in emissions reduction for the Fleet.

As Fleet Performance Engineer your primary areas of focus will be

  • Collection & verification of performance data. Our data is coming from different sources & programs that require active data management. The output contains a    wide variety of valuable signals.
  • Guiding and assisting colleagues at sea and ashore with performance related information provisioning so that they can make informed decisions throughout.
  • Analysing vessel & vessel class performance across the Unigas fleet. There are several areas of focus, being for example efficient power generation, reducing    emissions through conscious fuel consumption and improving cargo plant operations.
  • Delivering performance improvement projects from idea to embedded improvement. You are taking the lead from the R&D stage to deployment, training &    maintenance across the field.
  • Working closely with both in-house and external stakeholders to develop and implement solutions & tools in accordance with the (co-)created optimization        roadmap.
  • Assist other departments with data related inquiries; translating data into visuals & insights.

Towards the future your responsibilities might also expand towards:

  • Mapping current & future requirements of internal departments (Operational/Chartering/Technical) and the Unigas Pool Partners.
  • Act as primary application specialist for performance programs, various databases & corresponding performance models within Unigas.
  • Independently drive automation & systems integration projects.

Experience/Qualifications

  • You hold a (Master’s) Degree in Marine/Mechanical engineering, Data Science, Naval architecture or similar.
  • Preferably a track record / experience in (commercial) shipping, performance analysis and/or data management.
  • Experience with data handling systems, database management & some coding would be great. Expert knowledge of Excel (incl.VBA) is required and PowerBI    and/or Python would be a great bonus.
  • Interest in commercial (gas) shipping and decarbonisation is a bonus.

  • You easily adapt to your audience and like to work with teams from different backgrounds & disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, in both oral and written English (Dutch is a plus).
  • “Hands-on” and strong appetite to work in a fast-pace environment. You live by the ‘can do’ mentality and aim to positively surprise your audience by going above     and beyond the expected.
  • You have affinity with sustainability and/or optimization where you find your way between details and the bigger commercial picture.
  • You know when to apply a quick fix and when to dive into detailed solutions.
  • Independent and decisive as well as being a strong team player.
  • Self-motivated, responsible and professional.

We offer a full-time position in a dynamic, commercial environment. The Fleet Performance team is a young and growing team, currently consisting of the Performance & Sustainability Manager and a Fleet Performance Engineer. We work on expanding the team to three Fleet Performance Engineers. Our communication lines are short and informal, allowing you to quickly add value to the team and the business. It also enables you to quickly get familiar in the job and develop yourself towards a performance career in the shipping industry.

Our office on the 19th floor is having an incredible view and is located in the heart of Rotterdam being next to Metro Beurs. Frequently visiting Unigas vessels as well as having the possibility to sail with a vessel is promoted.

We are offering primary benefits commensurate to the position, your education and experience. This includes 14 months’ salary, fully paid pension scheme, discretionary bonus arrangement and full travel allowance.
