The ship management activities of J. Bekkers Co. include technical management, operational management and chartering management. Crew management is outsourced, under strict control of the technical management department. J. Bekkers Co. focusses on the deep-sea dry-bulk business with two geared Ultramax and two Cape Size vessels which are mainly sailing in the APAC region. The organization is internationally staffed with a flat structure.

Job description

The essential job tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Appointing and maintaining good relationships with agents worldwide;
• Monitor, guide and control bill of lading processes, mate’s receipt processes etc, all related to cargo manifests and protecting owners interests. These tasks are done in close co-operation with owners, charterers and cargo brokers;
• Preparing freight invoices and make laytime calculations, prepare voyage instructions, as well as handle any possible claims and speed claims with our inhouse lawyer.
• Assist the commercial director in reviewing and finetuning charter parties;
• Assisting in the review and finetuning of vessel descriptions;
• (Data) analysis on vessel performance;
• Deal with stevedores damage situations as they may occur;
• Monitor and review ship’s voyage performance during the voyage as well as analyse and recap performance, after voyage completion;
• In case of proven suitability, developing into the role of chartering manager, belongs to the possibilities.

Ideal profile

• At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the deep sea dry-bulk sector;
• Affinity/ experience in commercial operational matters;
• Good communicative skills;
• Database and software affinity and experience with systems similar to VESON IMOS / SOFTMAR, etc;
• Be a team player, as well as an independent, self starter;
• - Willing to travel globally whenever the job requires.

Education

- HAVO/HBO or similar level;

• ISM/ ISPS/ MLC Auditor training certificate is a plus;
• Company Security Officer training certificate is a plus;

- Sea-going experience is a plus;

- Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
