Crown Estate Welcomes Granting of Planning Consent for Future Wind Farm off Yorkshire Coast

The Crown Estate welcomes the announcement yesterday from DECC that it has granted planning consent for the Westermost Rough, Round 2 wind farm off the coast of Yorkshire, which could provide up to 245 MW of generating capacity.

Rob Hastings, Director of the Marine Estate at The Crown Estate said: “The consenting of the Westermost Rough wind farm underlines the important role that offshore wind projects will play in the development of the renewable energy industry, where schemes are progressing in support of energy infrastructure.”

Christian T. Skakkebæk, Country Manager of DONG Energy Renewables UK said: “We are very pleased to receive the consent on Westermost Rough, which will allow us to proceed with the detailed design and geotechnical investigation of the project. The Westermost Rough is an attractive project which benefits from shallow waters, good wind resource and access to suitable ports.

The consenting of the Westermost Rough project lends further momentum to the creation of jobs and investments that together are creating a world leading industry here in the UK. The Crown Estate’s offshore wind programmes have kick-started some of the largest infrastructure projects in the world with a potential market investment of over £100 billion.
