Renewables to Raise Number of North Sea Jobs

In the next five years, the North Sea is in line for a major jobs boom, because a third more oil and gas companies are about to invest into renewables.

Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets reports that 26% of oil and gas companies already use opportunities offered by marine and offshore wind industries.

The Number of 26 % will significantly rise in the future period up to 55 %. Ed Wilson, head of renewable energy at the bank, marks that Scotland is the perfect place for the oil and gas community do develop.

Renewables would help to create new jobs, instead of replacing jobs in traditional oil and gas activities.

Niall Stuart, chief executive of industry body Scottish Renewables said:

We have known for some time that oil and gas companies were diversifying into offshore renewables and this report helps quantify the benefits that expansion is bringing to Scotland.
