Possible New Turbine Factory in Humber

Possible New Turbine Factory in Humber

French turbine manufacturer Areva Wind has announced it is considering four possible sites along the northeast coast of Britain for a new factory, and the Humber is understood to be on the shortlist of possible locations, the Yorkshire Post writes.

The Humber is competing against other port sites on the east coast on the Tyne, Tees and in southeast Scotland to become a manufacturing centre which will supply turbines for the offshore wind farms at Hornsea and Dogger Bank.

The announcement was made after a report showed that the UK’s growing offshore wind industry could create up to 100,000 jobs by the end of the decade if the Government continues with its plans for building new wind farms around the British Isles’ coast.

The company will make a final decision this autumn.
