UK Law Firm Supports EMU’s Sale to Fugro

A team at leading UK law firm Burges Salmon has supported independent marine survey and environmental consultancy specialist EMU in its sale to Fugro, a major UK subsidiary of Fugro NV.

Primarily based in Southampton, EMU achieves annual revenues of more than EUR 20 million and has a broad client base in the oil and gas, renewables, engineering contracting, marine aggregate and government markets. The company will now further internationalise its business, supported by Fugro’s global network.

The shareholders were also assisted by Iain Buntain of IPB Associates, who joined the company as a non-executive director to assist in developing the company with a view to a possible sale. The Burges Salmon team – led by partner Richard Spink and supported by Julie Book and a team of specialists from across the firm – worked closely with both the management team and Iain during the sale process.

Simon Shaw from EMU said: “We are delighted to have completed the transaction with Fugro and hugely valued the support received from Iain and the Burges Salmon team in getting the deal done on schedule.

Richard Spink said: “EMU is a well-known player in the marine survey and environmental consultancy arena. We were very pleased to work with Iain to help the shareholders realise value through the deal and to enable Fugro and EMU to combine their highly complementary expertise. We were particularly interested in the transaction given our expertise as a firm in the renewables sector generally and specifically the marine and tidal side.”

Burges Salmon has an extensive client portfolio in the renewables sector, including both wind (on and offshore), solar, tidal and biomass technologies. In 2011 the firm was named the UK’s Legal & Financial Adviser of the Year in the Renewable Energy Infrastructure Awards.
